AUSTIN WAS BEAUTIFUL. Despite the unpredictable 40 degree rainy weather, I had a fantastic time bundled up in a black parka and scarves. We stayed in Austin for 3 days and 2 nights during the Thanksgiving break.
If you guys are lazy to read this blog, I took the liberty to vlog this trip. It'll be part of my long lost Youtube Channel that I have with Kara :)
Let me just list out the highlights here:
Austin State Capitol
We went to the state capitol on the 2nd day where we coincidentally stumbled on a Thanksgiving parade. Unfortunately, it was ending so we didn't get to see too much of it.
Aside from that, I loved the architecture! The classic dome and it's Corinthian columns inside were beautiful and you notice a sense of peace as you walked inside the building. Going inside is free and you can explore every part of the building from the main atrium to the senate meeting rooms.
One of the highlights of the trip was going to the Hope Outdoor Gallery, also known as the Graffiti Park. I would definitely say that this is a must see when you visit Austin. Even though it was drizzling and my hair started to unleash it's frizz, it was an amazing experience. Everything is constantly changing. I even saw a guy paint a wall with black paint to start his new art.
My room mate told me that the Free Hugs art wasn't there when she went over the summer :0
HIGHLY recommend the fries. Also, there is always a line at this place so come at off times like 2/3pm if you want dinner. We had to wait for probably 30 minutes just to order.
Architects of Air
This was an international exhibition that utilized design to create a unique in-person experience. A friend recommended us to visit so we decided to give it a try. This exhibition is displayed in cities all around the world. They're going to be in China next year! Because it a special event, the line was extremely long. We had to wait for around 40 minutes to the point where our fingers turned white x.x
BUT honestly, it was such a unique experience. The design concept of using natural light to color the different rooms inside was beautiful. I couldn't take any pictures since I didn't have a proper lens but its in the vlog!
Overall this Austin trip was amazing and I couldn't ask for anything better. We had a great stay at our host family and I had a fantastic time with the guys. Next time I visit, I'll make sure to try out Kayaking and hiking since that was something we wanted to do but couldn't because of the weather.
I would definitely recommend Austin as a place to visit if you want to experience both nature, history, and hipster-like culture. Overall, its nothing like the metropolitan cities that I've been to. :)
